Vue d'ensemble du projet

In October 2023, Weihua collaborated with Huisheng (Nantong) Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. to successfully complete the manufacturing and hoisting operations of a 2000t×200m shipbuilding gantry crane. Featuring a single main girder design with ultra-high tonnage and wide span capabilities, this crane stands as China’s largest tonnage shipbuilding gantry crane to date. Weihua was responsible for manufacturing the crane’s three trolleys and the entire machine’s running mechanism, ensuring high-precision operation and reliable performance. This achievement sets a new benchmark in China’s shipbuilding equipment sector.

Grue portique ultra-lourde de 2000 tonnes pour le levage de sections de coque

Exigences du client

To meet the construction demands of deep-sea equipment and large floating projects, Winsun Offshore Engineering specified the following key requirements:

  • Possess 2000-ton ultra-high lifting capacity to handle large ship section hoisting.
  • Support multiple lifting configurations including dual-trolley operation and independent main/auxiliary drum modes.
  • Maintain stable, reliable, and synchronized trolley/overhead travel systems across an ultra-wide 200-meter span.
  • Provide travel mechanisms capable of wide-range speed variation and heavy-load soft starts/stops for shipbuilding applications.

Solution

To address the complexity and extreme load requirements of shipbuilding operations, Weihua offers the Weihua dual-roller, dual-hook upper trolley Shipbuilding Gantry Crane solution:

Upper Trolley Design: Features a dual-trolley configuration with a double-drum, double-hook synchronous hoisting mechanism operating on the main girder’s planar trolley track. Each trolley achieves a lifting capacity of 2×500 tons.

Lower Trolley Design: Features an independent main/auxiliary drum dual-hook structure mounted on a frame support platform. It operates along the bottom girder rail with a lifting capacity of 600/50 tons, ensuring stability during heavy-load operations.

Multi-Condition Combined Lifting: The complete trolley system supports various combination modes including single-hook lifting, dual-hook lifting, triple-hook lifting, and quadruple-hook lifting. This accommodates ship section docking, aerial rotation, and complex construction requirements.

Crane Travel Mechanism: Designed for ultra-high lifting capacity and 200m span requirements, the travel mechanism employs a four-stage balanced beam configuration. Driven by 128 wheel sets, it offers adjustable travel speeds from 3–30 m/min, ensuring high-precision synchronized operation across large spans.

Features of Shipbuilding Gantry Crane

① Multi-mode Lifting Capabilities

Supports single-hook lifting, dual-hook lifting, triple-hook lifting, quadruple-hook lifting, and other configurations. Meets shipbuilding and repair scenarios including hull section docking, aerial rotation of large modules, and precision positioning lifting.

② Exceptional Lifting Capacity and Structural Strength

Upper trolley single-lift capacity: 2×500t
Lower trolley lifting capacity: 600/50t
Overall design accommodates large-span, ultra-heavy-load operations.

③ Robust Running System Stability

128 wheel sets distributed for drive, reducing single-point load.
Four-level counterweight beam structure ensures smoother crane operation, further enhancing hoisting safety.

Communication Process

  • During the project’s early stages, Weihua’s engineering team conducted multiple visits to Huisheng Offshore Engineering’s Nantong base. They conducted detailed surveys of the dry dock layout, section dimensions, hoisting procedures, and operational rhythms.
  • Both parties conducted iterative discussions on the functional configuration of the three trolleys, the stress model of the running mechanism, and the stability of long-span operations.
  • During the manufacturing phase, Weihua implemented enhanced inspection protocols for critical components and invited the client to conduct on-site supervision.
  • After equipment delivery, the technical team remained engaged in on-site installation, commissioning, and full-load testing to ensure seamless first-time lifting of the entire system.
