8 Units of 50t Double Girder Gantry Cranes for Saudi Infrastructure Construction Project

This project locates in northern Saudi Arabia, a large prefabricated component processing yard supporting local new urban infrastructure construction. The client built a full precast beam, steel component fabrication factory, needing batch gantry cranes for raw material feeding, finished beam lifting, stacking and shipment operations.

After global tender screening, the customer finally cooperated with Weihua, customized multiple sets of 50-ton double girder gantry cranes for the construction yard. All gantry cranes have been installed, commissioned and put into stable round-the-clock operation under desert high-temperature working conditions, becoming the core lifting equipment of this Saudi prefabrication base.

Customer Demand

• Environment adaptation: Saudi desert climate, daytime temperature exceeds 48℃ frequently, strong sandstorms all year round, ordinary gantry cranes are prone to motor burnout, electrical cabinet sand blockage, paint aging peeling problems;
• Load & working intensity: The precast beam weight fluctuates between 28–45 tons, frequent lifting all day long, working system A5, require stable hoisting without shaking to avoid finished concrete beams cracking;
• Site condition: The yard foundation is newly rammed earth ground, the customer required gantry crane wheel pressure to be controlled within a reasonable range, no extra large-scale foundation reconstruction to save civil engineering cost;
• Safety requirement: Unattended night construction often happens, need anti-collision, wind-proof automatic anchoring, overload protection complete safety configuration;
• After-sales worry-free: Local lack professional crane maintenance technicians, hope the supplier can provide remote monitoring + regular overseas on-site maintenance service system.

Communication Negotiation Process

The client first contacted three European crane brands at the initial stage, but European manufacturers’ customized cycle was longer (delivery period up to 16 weeks), and the quotation was 42% higher than our budget, meanwhile they could not provide timely local after-sales support in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi project manager found Weihua official independent station through Google search, initiated email consultation at the end of 2024. In the first two rounds of communication, the client was most concerned about high temperature sand-proof performance, worried that Chinese cranes could not withstand Saudi desert environment.

We arranged engineers to connect video calls twice, shared Weihua’s delivered gantry crane operation cases in UAE, Kuwait desert projects in recent 5 years, sent real working videos of cranes running under 50℃ high temperature for customer reference.
During the third communication, the customer sent the yard layout drawing and lifting schedule, hoped we optimize the gantry span and wheel layout to match their precast beam production line layout. Our technical team finished layout optimization drawing within 3 working days, adjusted the leg spacing to match their existing beam mould position perfectly, avoid modifying the production line layout again.

After confirming the technical scheme, the customer visited Weihua Henan factory in March 2025, inspected the production workshop, high-temperature aging test workshop of electrical parts, signed the formal procurement contract on the same day after witnessing the sand-proof and high-temperature simulation test of our electrical control system.

Whole machine adopts double main beam box girder gantry structure, optimize wheel layout to disperse pressure, adapt to the newly compacted soil foundation of the customer’s yard;

Electrical system overall sand-sealed design, all electrical cabinets equipped with cooling air conditioner + sand filter device, solve the problem of sand ingress and high temperature heat dissipation in desert;

Equipped with intelligent linkage anti-collision system between multiple gantry cranes, automatic wind-proof iron wedge anchoring device, when wind speed exceeds 6-level, the crane will automatically lock the travelling mechanism;

Hoisting system matched anti-sway frequency conversion control, greatly reduce the shaking amplitude during concrete beam lifting, lower the breakage rate of finished precast beams;

Advantages of Weihua Gantry Crane in This Project

Different from ordinary standard gantry cranes, this batch of machines adds independent sand filtering structure for each electrical cabinet, the paint layer uses outdoor heavy-duty anti-corrosion polyurethane coating, after 1 year of operation in Saudi desert, no paint peeling, electrical cabinet never appeared sand blockage failure.

(2) Anti-sway lifting protects finished products
The frequency conversion anti-sway control system is the customer’s most recognized advantage. When lifting long concrete precast beams, the swing range is controlled within 150mm, effectively prevent collision damage of precast components, the customer’s beam scrap rate dropped by nearly 70% after using our gantry cranes.

(3) Low foundation transformation cost
By optimizing the walking wheel distribution structure, the ground bearing pressure of the gantry crane is reduced by 18% compared with the traditional structure. The customer does not need to pour thick reinforced concrete foundation additionally, saving nearly 130,000 US dollars in civil construction expenses for the yard.

(4) Intelligent safety configuration reduces manual management risks
Automatic wind protection, inter-machine anti-collision, overload automatic power-off three major safety mechanisms, adapt to the customer’s night unattended construction mode, safety accidents caused by crane collision and strong wind sliding have been zero since operation.

Full-cycle Service System We Provided

Pre-sale technical service: Free yard layout planning, gantry position layout drawing design, provide foundation stress calculation report free of charge, guide the customer’s civil construction team to complete foundation construction correctly;
Production progress synchronization: Open factory real-time shooting channel during production, send weekly production progress video to Saudi engineers, customers can track production status remotely;

Overseas installation guidance: Send 2 senior crane installation engineers to Saudi site for 45 days, guide local workers to complete assembly, debugging, training 8 local operators and maintenance workers systematically;

Project Operation Result

All 8 sets of 50t gantry cranes were delivered and put into use in July 2025, up to now continuously run more than 13 months in Saudi desert construction yard, overall equipment failure rate less than 0.8%, far lower than the 3% average failure rate of European cranes used by surrounding yards;

Relying on stable lifting efficiency, the customer’s daily precast beam output increased from 12 pieces to 21 pieces, the component delivery progress of the whole infrastructure project was advanced by 22 days;

The cost saved on foundation transformation + beam breakage loss reduction, helped the customer recover the additional customized cost of desert-proof structure within 8 months;

No safety lifting incidents occurred throughout the operation cycle, passed the Saudi local safety authority inspection certification smoothly at one time.

The project general manager of the Saudi client gave feedback in the latest mail:

“We originally worried that Chinese cranes could not endure the high temperature and sand of Saudi Arabia, but Weihua gantry cranes have been running steadily for more than a year, rarely breaking down.
